My husband and I both grew up in New Bedford, a large city located along the Massachusetts  southeastern  coastline.  We actually met while attending the same Junior High School.  We were married in May of 1980 and moved to North Carolina.  We have been blessed with two daughters, Maureen and Joslyn, and a son, Kyle.  Our family also includes two furry children; a three year old Black Mouth Curr named Reddmen and a 16 year old Siamese Cat named Sabrina.  My husband and I have also been blessed with nine beautiful grandchildren who all live in the Raleigh area.

I currently have more than 25 years experience teaching middle school math.  I found my passion for teaching while participating as a parent volunteer during the years my daughters were enrolled in middle school.  When they moved onto to high school, I found myself enrolled at East Carolina pursuing a BS Degree in Middle School Education.  I am highly qualified to teach grades 6-9 in Mathematics, and Middle School Social Studies.  I am also certified to teach Academically and Intellectually Gifted Students.  I worked as the AIG Teacher for two years at Dillard Drive Middle School before joining the staff at East Garner Middle. I was nationally Board Certified in Middle School Math for ten years, but did not complete renewal process because of my mother's untimely death.

As an educator, I hold myself and my students to high educational standards.  I believe that all students are very capable learning.  Students need to understand that learning is not always easy and that failure is a productive part of the learning process.   When a student experiences productive struggle, it is often a sign that they are venturing out of their comfort zone and into new areas of learning.  My job as an educator is to help my students learn how to navigate the learning process to the best of their ability and to teach them to be resilient.
